Here at FW Cattle Company Farm, we work with a local dairy farmer and our exceptional repro vets to bring to life some of our dream pairings via our embryo program. We pull oocytes from our mamas and use semen from some of the coolest bulls in the industry to create embryos. Our partner dairy farm implants those embryos in their dairy cows to serve as surrogates.
After the calves are born they spend several days at the dairy getting all the fresh colostrum they need to set them up for a healthy, vibrant life. The calves then come home to our farm where we bottle and/or bucket feed them for the next six weeks and prepare them for their forever homes.
Calves from our embryo program receive the same vaccinations, health maintenance and calf kindergarten protocol that our dam raised calves do. Once calves are eating hay and calf starter well and are down to two bottles per day, usually around six weeks old, they are ready to go to their forever homes. However, calves are only eligible to go to forever homes at six weeks old if their new family has experience raising bottle calves and has the knowledge base to ensure they thrive. If this is your first calf, they are required to stay with us until they are 3 months old to make sure they continue to do well and stay healthy. That is the most important thing! You are always welcome to visit your calf and we love to FaceTime if you are farther away.
